Secrets on how to get followers on the hub pages

Updated on March 19, 2017

Followers...............................they will come

My good old Possum hub has finally gone to the wayside here at the Hub Pages & I have no hard feelings about it whatsoever $6, and actually I'm very relieved. It was really getting to be too much work to maintain. I'm not going anywhere right now, and it's time for a new chapter to begin for me here on the hub pages. I been here on the hub pages for almost two years now, and I've seen a lot here through different sets of eyes. So I've decided to tell you all what I've learned about following other hubbers here on the hub pages. It's very rewarding to have others following you, and it's also more complicated then a lot of people realize. It's disappointing for many to follow someone, and to find out latter that they aren't following you back. Something that everyone needs to remember is that the hub pages is worldwide, and you are dealing with all sorts of folks from every corner of this big round spinning rock that we all are living on. Most of the folks here on the hub pages are really good people, but you are always going to have knuckleheads where ever you go in this world. Just don't pay them any attention here on the hub pages or anywhere else for that matter. It's now time to get into the nuts and bolts of following.

The rules of following

1) Don't ever take your followers for granted, and they can stop following you as fast as they started to follower you. There are multiple reasons a person will stop following you. They may have lost interest in what you are writing about. They may have been banned by the hub pages for some reason. They may just be trying to reduce the number of people they are following. Be prepared for attrition here on the hub pages, where you'll constantly find old followers leaving and new followers arriving frequently. Just don't take it personally when another person stops following you, and remember you always have the choice to stop following them as well. You also can't blame another hubber who stops following you, especially if you aren't following them to begin with.

2) If you want more followers then you need to follow other people. You will see and receive much more traffic to your hubs just by simply following others, and leaving comments & fan mail.

3) Be polite and follow others in return who are kind enough to follow you. Some people feel it's just plain rude when someone doesn't follow them back. I've even read in the forums where a person who had a tremendous amount of followers was bragging that they only followed twelve people back. I'm not going to name names here, but that's pathetic behavior.

4) If you follow to many people, then your profile score will most likely suffer. This usually occurs when a person follows over a thousand other hubbers. This is where you need to ask yourself an important question. Are you here for fun, or are you here for a few nickles, pennies & dimes? I have a job & I'm here purely for fun, and to enjoy the company of other wonderful people here on the hub pages. To many that profile score is obsolete, outdated, and needs to be done away with by the hub page staff. Most of us don't even pay any attention to it & could care less, but this is a choice that each person needs to make.

Choosing those who you wish to follow

Now don't get me wrong, and this hub isn't about just following anybody. Everyone is different, and there are those who I'd follow even if they stopped following me, and then there are those who I wouldn't follow even if they paid me cold hard cash. Everyone is different even here on the hub pages, and you have to take following case by case, and base your decision as you see fit.

Of coarse it goes without saying that it's a no brainier to go ahead and follow those hubbers who's writings interest you. As of writing this hub there were well over 227,500 published users (hubbers) on the hub pages. However that number is highly inflated for multiple reasons. There are various types of hubbers & issues to consider when it comes to following. Here's a simple break down of each category. .

1) Temporary hubbers - These are the folks that joined the hub pages & wrote a few hubs, then left never to return again.

2) Inactive hubbers - These are seasoned folks that over time have gotten upset either at the hub pages or with their own results. They leave, sometimes deleting all of their hubs never to be heard from again.

3) Part time hubbers - These hubbers come & go from the hub pages. They return every now and then usually separated by multiple months. They leave a couple of comments, return a few follows and are gone again. They will probably follow you back, but it could take some time.

4) Retired hubbers - these people are permanently done with the hub pages, and are possibly even deceased.

5) The unresponsive hubber - These folks for whatever reason rarely or even sometimes never follow anyone in return. You will discover this by simply looking over their history, and you will discover that it's full of comments, questions, and forum responses. They seldom follow anyone, and when someone is kind enough to follow them, it often goes unanswered. There are those out there that might not want to hear this, but it's the bitter truth.

6) Hot hubbers - These are extremely active people who have a recent history of following others. Now if you want some guaranteed followers, these are the hubbers you will want to follow. To find them, you just simply click on a hubber's history, and on just the first page or two you'll discover if they are following others or not. If they have been following someone in the past day or so, or even better within the past 24 hours, then they are very active followers & you'll want to consider following them. Usually where you find one hot follower, there will be others around as well.

Tips on history

You will find your own history, and every single other hubber's history located on the lower section of the profile page. This is a virtual treasure trove of facts. This history dates back for the past eight weeks or two months for everyone who's on the hub pages. So there's no hiding anything from anybody on the hub pages, and the history shows everything. I've always found it interesting to see all of the unapproved comments, and items removed by a moderator, which I stumble across. That being said, I want to pass on a time saving short-cut which I've discovered over the coarse of time since I've been here. When you are searching through a history for hubbers to follow, anywhere you have already traveled to changes the shade of color on your computer monitor for "YOUR" computer. Now I realize that all computers aren't the same, but on my computer the words are a brighter shade of blue for places that I haven't traveled to yet. After I've clicked on them the color changes to a darker purple looking shade of color. Another words if you are looking for fast people to follow, then there's no reason to click again on somewhere you've already been. Simply scroll on down through the history looking for hubbers names in the brighter shade of blue, and click on those. This will save you a great amount of time when you are in search of new followers. You can take all of this information that you are armed with now, and get yourself some followers. After all I didn't get over 1,000 followers, because the Possum was a popular subject matter!
